South Pointe Chevrolet invites you to understand why your car or truck air conditioning is not working correctly.
Your vehicle’s AC not working is most likely caused by a freon leak or a bad compressor. Though these are the most obvious reasons for the air-conditioner not working in the car, a dirty cabin filter or a bad compressor belt may also be the culprit. Regardless of why or how, when you are expecting the relief of cold air it can be incredibly disappointing whenever it won’t turn on. Don’t sweat it though, because our well-versed technicians are trained to help resolve any issues and are ready to get your vehicle prepared before the first heatwave hits.
The most likely reason your AC stopped working is the vehicle’s AC is leaking. The car’s air-conditioner system needs freon to cool the ambient air temperature and produces refreshing cold air. Anytime there is a freon leak on your car there is no way to cool the air. Another reason for your AC not producing cold air is because the car is a hybrid. The air-conditioning system is powered by the engine, if your car is in EV mode then the engine has stopped running and won’t power the air-conditioning.
If the AC is turned on but the fan stopped working then there might be a defective air-conditioning fuse. Fuses protect components of a vehicle from a power surge and while it may just need to be repaired, however, if the AC fuse keeps popping then it’s possible there’s a much larger issue. There’s can be a chance that the vehicle’s air-conditioning Compressor could be affected by a low amount of air-conditioning refrigerant or a possible leak that needs to be looked at.
If the air-conditioner is leaking, you could easily tell by the damp spots in your vehicle or puddles seen under your car when it’s parked. For your AC to pump cold air into your car, it has to place all of that moisture it uses from the outdoors and should leave through the evaporator drain. One more cause might be the AC Refrigerant amount being low which produces a buildup of condensation since the evaporator coils will start to freeze. You need to keep an eye out for faulty seals in the AC compartment or the AC’s air filters in case the issue continues to happen.
